PART I : 5 nasty nasty traits of the typical typicalSingaporean guy. (because conformance to norms is ridiculous) 1. Cyber gaming obsession. Their life revolves around DOTA, WOW and everything else similar. Photography/Art? No. Clayderman? No. Poetry? No. Jazz? No. Literature? No Fine dining? No Free time? Yes Arcade? Yes Foodcourt? Yes Laksa? Yes Nasi Lemak? Yes Charlie & the Chocolate Factory? Yes An intrinsic lack of personality depth is VERY scary.. 2. Orientation day : Introduction of himself to everyone else. Hi, my name is Huang Wei De,23, Chinese & im matriculating in year 1, im in SMU. I am an average Singaporean guy who enjoys eating, going out with friends and watching nice movies. Not that ive got a problem against it, but it's so cliche and its overdone. If i were one of the sassier and more seductive ladies in that orientation bunch, i woulda gave him a glare. Why? You know, Singaporean men takes things like these for granted. How would people like me to want to know you? I don't mean to ask one to lie, but at least phrase it in a more intriguing manner that would captivate the attention of others. Hi, my name is Charis & i look boring. If im silent, that means im inwardly pondering about the mysteries of life. Photography, Poetry & Fine Music are one of my whimsical obsessions. Ive never had a friend who understood me. I think highly of myself because there's no one else like me. I do crazy and random stuffs sometimes and im only patiently waiting for my first wakeboarding/underwater snorkelling trip. I believe that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. Before i run out of saliva, i just wanna let everyone know that i have multiple personality disorder - not that it'll get me warded into IMH for aggression.. but it's something that you would want to find out more. and yeah, i'll bet you'll be obsessed with me. I am TOTALLY unexpected and random, all in the name of quirky, strange fun. 3. Going for a date with a girl Don't get me wrong, i'd love to plan. But sometimes, i just love to be so random about things like these. "Hello, is this Rachel?" "Yes? "Shall we go to Orchard for dinner this sat, 6pm?" "Sure" "Okay." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *tears my hair out* "Rachel?" "yes yes?" "In 30 minutes, Smart Casual" 4. Misconception of Success(or at least to me) To him, Success means having a beautiful wife who can cook, and 2 kids who are smart in their studies and a nice car to drive everyone to town on Saturdays. Material Success. To me, success means influencing the lives of close ones around you for the better. It's done in such a intrinsic, exquisite manner that i can't just describe how it works. For my future wife, constant communication between us - since i perceive that both of us would be soulmates, having passions for the same hobbies, and etc. I would influence her in such a way that it opens up her horizon, makes her feel strangely good, let her experience things like music from a different facet. For my kids, it's always not about results, but on the emphasis on things better than that, i would think that if ive got 30 years left with my kids, what kind of gifts would i want to give them, so that they'll carry it along with them for the rest of their lives? Impacting people in the things unseen. Thats the best form of impact, and it brings the most satisfaction and i think that its the rarest form of success. Emotional Success. 5. Lifestyle 8-6:30 - work 6:30 - 7 - travelling to work 7-8 - watch tv 8-9 - surf net 9-10 - play games 10-7- sleep. Yeah, this is the form of lifestyle which plagues almost 99% of all Singaporean Men from 25-65. Before marrying that guy, always be sure to ...observe his lifestyle habits. These are the kind of guys whom you'll love to avoid for the next century of your lives.. Okays, thats part I :) |
